“nofolder is an open source, universal file sharing and backup solution like no other.”
At first glance “nofolder” is a bit like other cloud based ideas. Save files on any device and in real time they are synchronized and available to all devices are attached to your nofolder account. To be truly universal, nofolder works on Windows, Mac and Linux Desktops as well as Android, iPad, iPhone and Windows mobile devices.
The difference is that nofolder is a private cloud. You own and control the server that clients synchronize with. In an enterprise setting, the last thing you need is your sensitive data on someone else’s servers.
Thats great, but what is so special about nofolder? If there are already solutions available like DropBox and Google Drive, why does my enterprise need a nofolder?
It’s all about control
With nofolder the control is returned to you:
Freedom: No “Walled Garden” to wander blindly in. With nofolder your garden is as open or closed as your enterprise demands.
Cost: The nofolder server and desktop clients are free for your home or business, personal or enterprise use.
Open: Being Open Source, the code is freely available for you to view and contribute to. This “transparency” brings with it greater security, quicker development, better features and faster bug fixes.
Scalability: With nofolder, you can have as little as one user. The upper limits are unknown as it is simply a matter of how many resources your enterprise dedicates to the server or cluster of nodes.
Social: Simply right click on any file that belongs to your nofolder and pick “Send Link” for a secure one time use link to send your colleagues to download the file instead of attaching a file to an email. Since your files are synchronized in real time you can share a file instantly
Storage: Since you are in control, you can add as much storage space as you like. Just upgrade your drive or add a new one.
Versioning: The nofolder system keeps track of the changes you make to your files so you restore them to an earlier time if needed. If you accidentally delete a file, it can also be restored.
The benefits of nofolder over other options
Enterprise: Built from the ground up, nofolder comes with enough flexibility and configuration options to suit the largest of organizations. If fine grain control of the way folders and files become available is a must have, nofolder is for you.
Auditable: Your files are stored in the location you choose according to the rules you specify. When you need to demonstrate data compliancy, rest assured that with nofolder you are covered.
LDAP/AD integration: Your nofolder enterprise server will easily connect to your existing directory server for user authentication. If this level of integration is not needed, nofolder will use it’s own database to store users and their info.
Speed: When connected over your local network, the time it takes to sync your files is greatly reduced. When outside the server’s local network, the file transfer rate will be that of your internet’s speed.
Security: All data is encrypted during transfer and on the server using AES. The data can also be encrypted on the client and cannot be decrypted without connecting to the server if desired. If access for a user is no longer required or a device is lost or stolen, the nofolder server can remotely wipe the data.
Mobility: For businesses, the ability to have read and write access to files by multiple persons is nothing new. With nofolder, access can be granted to groups of people in different locations at the same time, even the road warriors on their laptops.
Convenience: You don’t have to be connected to the network to access your files. If you are traveling and need your files, they are on your device. When you reconnect to the network nofolder will synchronize all of your changes detecting any conflicts and asking you to resolve them. If another user in a group modifies a file at the same time as you do, nofolder will notify you and offer a recommended solution.
Proven technology: Our standard server install is on top of the latest build of CentOS, an enterprise grade server operating system, however you can run it on any server that can support an MAP stack even IIS.
So whats the catch?
You just need to have some hardware or a virtual machine for the server portion of the system to run on. The server will need more storage space than you currently wish to synchronize because of the file versioning component. After you install the client on your devices, you simply choose the folders you want to synchronize. We are developing a plug and play appliance which will be available shortly.
“nofolder will forever change the way you backup and share your data.”
